Join us in person for a special day of remembrance and community spirit as we plant trees to honor the Humboldt Broncos. Let's come together to create a living memorial in the beautiful Clavet area Forest. It's a perfect chance to connect with nature and share stories while making a lasting impact. Bring your friends and family – everyone’s welcome!

🌲 What to Bring to the Humboldt Broncos Memorial Healing Forest Tree Planting

Every tree, every seed, and every helping hand will contribute to creating a living legacy of remembrance, healing, and hope. If you’re joining us for the tree planting, please consider bringing:

🪴 A shovel — your own garden shovel or spade will help us get more trees in the ground.

🧤 Gardening gloves — protect your hands and make planting more comfortable.

🧢 A hat — the planting area is open and sunny, so please come prepared for the weather.

💧 Water to drink — bring a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated.

🚰 Water for the trees — if you can, please bring two or three jugs of water to help give newly planted trees a good start.

🌱 Tree saplings or seeds — if you have suitable tree saplings or seeds growing in your neighbourhood or on your property that you would like to contribute, please bring them along.

🌾 Native grass or wildflower seeds — have some native prairie grass or native wildflower seeds? (pictures) Bring them along! They can help create habitat and add biodiversity to the Memorial Healing Forest.

💚 Every Contribution Counts

You don't need to bring everything—and you certainly don't need to bring anything to participate. Your presence is the most important contribution of all.

Whether you arrive with a shovel, a jug of water, a handful of native seeds, a tree sapling, or simply two willing hands, you are helping transform this landscape into a living memorial.

Together, we will plant more than trees.

We will plant remembrance.

We will plant hope.

🌱 A Living Classroom: Educational Opportunities at the Tree Planting

The Humboldt Broncos Memorial Healing Forest tree planting is more than a planting day—it is an opportunity for families, students, educators, and community members to learn by doing. Every tree placed in the ground provides a starting point for conversations about biodiversity, climate action, habitat, soil, water, wildlife, Indigenous knowledge, and the responsibility we share for caring for the land.

For students, the event can become an outdoor classroom where environmental concepts move from the textbook into real life. Participants can explore how trees capture carbon, provide wildlife habitat, protect soil, contribute to water management, support pollinators, and strengthen ecosystem resilience. Younger children can discover the excitement of planting and watching something living take root, while older students can explore ecological restoration, species selection, climate adaptation, biodiversity monitoring, and the role of community stewardship.

The planting also provides a tangible connection to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

Students migh ask: What species belong here? Why do we plant native trees? Where will wildlife find food and shelter? How will this forest change over time? What does a tree contribute to a community?

Families can explore together. Educators can turn the landscape into a living lesson. Young people can experience conservation as something they do, rather than simply something they learn about.

And everyone can leave knowing that they have contributed to something larger than themselves.

This is a tree planting—but it is also an outdoor classroom, a biodiversity project, a climate-action activity, a community-building experience, and a living lesson in stewardship.
