We believe in building comprehensive, community-based support systems. To make our voices heard in the legislature, we are mobilizing dedicated volunteers to engage with their communities and gather signatures for our official petition.The RoleAs a Community Canvasser, you are the frontline ambassador for this movement. You will be walking door-to-door in targeted neighborhoods, having meaningful, brief conversations with residents, distributing educational pamphlets, and collecting signatures on our legislature-compliant petition.Key Responsibilities Community Engagement:Approach doors with a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor to initiate conversations with residents. Education & Advocacy: Clearly and concisely communicate the core message: the urgent need to prioritize voluntary treatment infrastructure over specific legislative measures. Signature Collection:Guide residents through the process of correctly signing the official petition, ensuring all necessary fields are filled out accurately to maintain the validity of every signature. Resource Distribution:Hand out official campaign pamphlets and answer basic questions using the provided volunteer training manual. Material Management:Keep all physical petition pages clean and secure. Strict Deadline Compliance:Ensure all original, signed petition sheets are returned to your regional hub coordinator well before the hard deadline of August 15, 2026What We Are Looking For Excellent Communicators:You are comfortable speaking to strangers, listening actively, and steering conversations respectfully. Passionate Advocates:You care deeply about public health resources, evidence-based reform, and improving community support networks in Saskatchewan. Reliable & Organized: You can follow Standard Operating Procedures, handle official documents with care, and reliably meet campaign deadlines. Physical Stamina: You are comfortable walking outdoors and navigating residential neighborhoods for shifts of 2–3 hours.What We Provide A comprehensive Volunteer Training Package and field kit. Operating for over 30 years, the Saskatoon Fringe Festival produced by 25th Street Theatre is an explosive celebration of art, community, and most importantly – THEATRE.Now a global phenomenon, the first Fringe Festival began as an act of theatre rebellion in 1947 when a daring group of artists crashed the Edinburgh International Festival. Performing on the “fringe” of the event, they ignited a revolution of artistic exploration that lives on in every Fringer. Today, over 250 Fringes are celebrated across the globe, pushing boundaries and toasting to the artists who colour outside of the lines. Whilst primarily a Theatre Festival, the Saskatoon Fringe also joyously features an outdoor portion. This street Festival is located in W.E. THE PROBLEM A growing number of women and gender-diverse people are being impacted by homelessness, displaced from their homes and estranged from their families. The isolation can be particularly challenging. Often, women report feeling disconnected from society, invisible and alone. The stigma around homelessness only perpetuates this inequality and the cycle inevitably continues.THIS LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITYThis is a great role for enthusiastic project manager types to grow and develop. Help inspire your community to take action and change the narrative for how at risk women in our communities are viewed for future generations. A LOCAL CHAPTER is a branch of The Shoebox Project led entirely by volunteers in communities across Canada.On behalf of, and supported by a trusted registered charity, Local Chapters collect gifts and essentials from members of the community and distribute them through shelters and agencies to local women and gender-diverse individuals experiencing or at-risk-of homelessness. A LOCAL CHAPTER COORDINATOR determines a Chapter's goals based on the needs of local shelters and community agencies. They lead and execute seasonal gift drives by recruiting local volunteers to help. Chapters educate and build awareness of The Shoebox Project and our mission. They encourage the community to support their Chapter through Shoebox gifts, monetary donations, volunteering and offering kind messages of support to the women they serve.Our annual giving campaign is during the holidays and a majority of Chapter activity is from September(planning), through December (gift delivery). Many chapters run gift giving campaigns during other times of the year like International Women's Day and Mother's Day.This leadership opportunity is flexible with your schedule and home based, however you do need to be living within the community you are serving as this is a boots on the ground opportunity as you lead local volunteers in drive related activities. YOUR COMMUNITY IMPACT:Every woman, regardless of their circumstances, Canadan achieve great things for themselves and their families. They can gain confidence and self worth, find independence, become leaders and someday may mentor others to do the same. We recommend that youth volunteers take training in each of the program areas to find the volunteer opportunity within these that suits you and your community best. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout Saskatchewan.You will also have access to additional professional and personal development opportunities. These opportunities will be counted towards your total volunteer hours, and costs, including provincial travel and accommodation, will be covered by Foundations Learning.
