Opportunity Description
Volunteer Role: Community Canvasser for petition
Organization: Voluntary Treatment First Saskatchewan
Location: Neighborhoods across Saskatchewan (Local Hubs)
Campaign Timeframe: Immediate start All materials must be submitted by August 15, 2026
About the Campaign
Voluntary Treatment First Saskatchewan is a grassroots initiative dedicated to advocating for evidence-based reform and the prioritization of voluntary care infrastructure across our province. We believe in building comprehensive, community-based support systems. To make our voices heard in the legislature, we are mobilizing dedicated volunteers to engage with their communities and gather signatures for our official petition.
The Role
As a Community Canvasser, you are the frontline ambassador for this movement. You will be walking door-to-door in targeted neighborhoods, having meaningful, brief conversations with residents, distributing educational pamphlets, and collecting signatures on our legislature-compliant petition.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement:Approach doors with a friendly, respectful, and professional demeanor to initiate conversations with residents.
Education & Advocacy: Clearly and concisely communicate the core message: the urgent need to prioritize voluntary treatment infrastructure over specific legislative measures.
Signature Collection:Guide residents through the process of correctly signing the official petition, ensuring all necessary fields are filled out accurately to maintain the validity of every signature.
Resource Distribution:Hand out official campaign pamphlets and answer basic questions using the provided volunteer training manual.
Material Management:Keep all physical petition pages clean and secure.
Strict Deadline Compliance:Ensure all original, signed petition sheets are returned to your regional hub coordinator well before the hard deadline of August 15, 2026
What We Are Looking For
Excellent Communicators:You are comfortable speaking to strangers, listening actively, and steering conversations respectfully.
Passionate Advocates:You care deeply about public health resources, evidence-based reform, and improving community support networks in Saskatchewan.
Reliable & Organized: You can follow Standard Operating Procedures, handle official documents with care, and reliably meet campaign deadlines.
Physical Stamina: You are comfortable walking outdoors and navigating residential neighborhoods for shifts of 2–3 hours.
What We Provide
A comprehensive Volunteer Training Package and field kit.
All necessary physical materials (clipboards, pens, petition pages, and pamphlets).
Ongoing support from regional hub coordinators.
The opportunity to make a tangible, lasting impact on provincial health infrastructure.

About the Organization
Voluntary care first petitiom against bill 48
Advocacy, Law & Politics
I started Voluntary Treatment First Saskatchewan because I'm concerned about the direction our province is taking with Bill 48. Like many people, I've watched the addiction crisis affect families, friends, and communities across Saskatchewan. I believe we should be investing in accessible voluntary treatment, mental health care, housing, and recovery supports before turning to forced treatment. This petition is about giving people a voice and pushing for solutions that are compassionate, evidence-based, and built around helping people get the support they need.
